Nicolas y Micaela (pre-grade school days), yep!
My mind is blown. Let me elaborate. My hatred for pants and zipper fly’s/love for dresses and elasticbands has been around since I was a young (and husky….very chunky) girl. During my grade school days, I would have dresses made for me by the mother of one of my best friends. My girl’s name was Rosa. I remember her house EXACTLY…television in the front room, her mother’s sewing table (maybe it was just the dining room table?) to the left..her room to the right..and her brother’s room all in the way in the back by the kitchen. It’s just one of those mental images that stays with you forever. I’ve definitely kept in touch with some people since that time, (Sara..and the love of my life: Kyle Balmer), but just the other day I received an Email:
Hey Mica,
This is Rosa, I know it has been many many years but Sara actually turned me on to your blog and I just wanted you to know that I read it everyday. Kinda creepy but sometimes I check it twice to see if there are any new updates. I’ve gotten some friends hooked on it too, you three are too funny and I absolutely love your fashion blogs (I also suffer from designer addiction but empty wallet syndrome).
Well hit me up if you want to hang, I live in the South Loop area near white sox stadium.
I haven’t had a chance to write her back, but hi Rosa, I hope you don’t mind me putting the Email up, it’s really great to hear from you and I’m replying tomorrow. Tell Larry I said hi.
A man ripped off Hitler’s wax head at the opening of Madame Tussad’s Wax Musuem in Berlin. The wax figure is supposed to be set in a scene during Hitler’s last days, which we know were the day’s that he knew he was about to get treated heavily by the Allies. (If I was Hitler, I’d be mad that a)they were showing me in a weak moment of my life b) someone ripped my head). Anyway, it’s illegal to show Nazi biz in Germany or anything showing Nazi Germany in positive light, therefore the exhibit was very controversial. Anyone who has been to any of Madame Tussad’s knows that you are allowed to take pictures with the wax figures, but not with Hitler. People were asked to refrain from taking any pictures out of respect for the millions killed in WWII. Hitler sucked/sucks in wax form, I’m glad someone took off his wax head. I feel bad for the 25 workers who spent 4 months making the figure only to know some 41 year old man would be ballsy enough to pull a Marie Antoinette on his head. Oh well, sucks to be you, wax Hitler.

Blogging poolside is on some next level, 21st century shit. Very 2008. I put the MP3’s together inside while drinking my coffee, but this quick rant? All outside, baby. Anyway, I don’t think I’ve ever appreciated the 4th as much as I have this year..and for reasons that don’t have anything to do with our country’s independence. I work in a field where Holidays mean nothing; I’m on call at any given moment. Because of this, I’m unaffected by the importance of these days/get pissed that everyday life is somehow put on hold. I like knowing that I can go to any store/restaurant I want during normal operating hours. None of this closing early bullshit. Does that make me selfish? I’m just really uncomfortable with change, OK? I didn’t know if I was going to have the complete weekend off, but so far..so good. I hope I didn’t just jinx that. Oops..
I’ve never been good at history (mainly because I can’t keep dates/years that come with events straight), but isn’t the 4th about reaffirming your commitment to liberty and freedom of choice? For me, that means exercising my freedom to enjoy endless potato salad, Top Chef: Chicago marathons, endless sunshine, pool time with King Tut and listening to top 40, mostly Rihanna. I really believe girl is running the world right now..and what can I say, I’m really digging the whole “Goth/Punk/Rebellious” look she’s been pulling off recently. She’s going through the phase a little late (as most go through this between the ages of 12-15), but hey..I’m not hating. Do you think “Umbrella” is ever going to get old? Do you think Chris Brown is good in bed? I mean, his dancing is super on point…and I believe that rhythm is half the battle when it comes to sex, but I don’t know, I could see him being bad too. Alright, I’ve said enough. Rant over. Have a good rest of the weekend, and happy 4th, 5th, and 6th my people.
