I’m a huge fan of personalization; making an unoriginal, mass produced item into a special, little something that really is a reflection of yourself and your style. I feel that everyone should have items (whether it be clothing or jewelry, etc.) that help to create one’s own “signature.” For me, those items that I hold near and dear include: a gold chain that I’ve worn since I was a little girl that has two charms: Gold “Island of Cuba” piece and another black piece that is supposed to ward off the evil eye. (What can I say, my Mom is into Santeria.) Another is a gold Santa Barbara charm (Cuba’s Patron Saint) and a gold bracelet that has “Micaela” etched on the top plate (again, from when I was a little girl.) Of course there’s also my “Micaela” nameplate necklace that I wear everyday, and my gold “M” name ring that I wear on occasion. I also just won a gold “M” brooch off of Ebay for 3 dollars. If you can’t tell what my signature is by the end of this description, let me spell it out for you: Gold, my name, and my initials.

I read an article a few months back that dealt with personalized pieces of jewelry. Is the person wearing his/her own initial or name tasteful and classy or conceited and arrogant? While it could be the latter (because I’m clearly full of myself), I personally think that something like a monogram shirt or cufflinks is CLASSIC..timeless. You never have to fear about the piece going out of style; your name is yours, and yours for life. So while I do enjoy Chanel’s signature double C’s, or Gucci’s signature double G’s (I’m not talking breasts here) it’s nice to have an MGB thrown up in the mix from time to time. The reason I’m even bringing this up is because J Crew (Love you, forever and ever) has a monogram option for a lot of their clothing, like the white shirt above for something like an extra 10 dollars; well worth the service fee when you’re getting a piece that will have a lot of use throughout the years. Me: a Heather Wheat colored Cashmere cardigan with a canary MGB monogram. Look for it this coming Fall. (For more, click here .)

I’ve been on the hunt for two things this past week: 1. the perfect pair of underwear and 2. the perfect pair of eyeglasses. I won’t go into the first item (at least for right now) so let me dive into eye wear. Yes, I am blind as a bat; I wear contacts during every waking moment; Last time I purchased a pair of glasses was, what, 4 years ago? Maybe a little longer. They’re still stylish; the shit even, but I’m trying to step up my game this coming Fall and maybe outwardly represent the 4 eye minority a little bit more. I’ve pretty much picked out my frames: Club Monaco CM6001, in Havana Brown. I know the product number, etc because I e-jotted it down in my phone while at the Lenscrafter on Milwaukee Ave the other day. I got the ‘Ok, Perfect,Purchase” from Alicia, but I might need a second, brotherly Nicolas opinion, however. I can’t find them online, so here’s some frames that were finalists, Gucci being the winner out of all of them. K fine, I’m ordering the Gucci’s below.

Gucci, $180

Burberry, $145

Marc Jacobs, $140

Kenneth Cole, $110
